New Study Reveals How Hispanic Gen Z Is Rewriting the Rules of Brand Engagement, Media Representation, and Cultural Identity

Independently owned Latine media company LatiNation and ThinkNow have released a new study, “Culture Decoded: How Hispanic Gen Z Redefines Authentic Brand Engagement” on how English-dominant and bilingual Gen Z Latines are reshaping the way culture is communicated, consumed, and translated into action.
The national survey of 400 U.S. Hispanic Gen Z respondents has uncovered a powerful new truth: language is no longer the defining factor in cultural connection—authentic representation is.
Some key findings from the study:
Authenticity Drives Results
87% of respondents detect inauthentic ads instantly.
59% reward brands that acknowledge their heritage.
42% make purchases after engaging with culturally authentic content.
Identity and Media are Connected
85% use media to connect with their Hispanic identity.
35% actively seek media to learn more about their heritage.
So what does this mean for marketers and advertisers? As more and more Gen Z Latines are using content to help fill gaps in their identity, heritage, and cultural knowledge, they are also demanding more from the institutions that help shape their lives. In order to connect with this pivotal audience, marketers are going to have to demonstrate a fluency in Latine culture and not just the Spanish language.
